On the first full day back home last summer, Peter and I took the kids and went kayaking and paddle boarding on the Charles River. It was a lovely day and the water was still and perfect for reflections from the bridges above. Part of the day also involved a trip down the street from my parents’ house to the local Dunkin’ Donuts. Donuts are just not the same on the West Coast as they are back east. Fire Call boxes are also so typical and normal along Newton streets. I’ve never actually seen one in use though. I think they were probably out of date when I was a kid. Peter says, however, that no, they still are in use and are still being made. There are groups that look to preserve them and blogs of people posting about their latest use. This is more country wide than just Newton specific.
